I went for a walk in the middle of the afternoon. A warm but not unpleasant 90°F. "Dry heat" I guess? Much better than the upper 90's and 100's we were having a couple of weeks ago.

OMG. It got up to 75 the other day. HEAT WAVE! I do love the cold weather and it is getting down to 35F for the next couple of nights. Time to stoke the fire! Yippee.

Back to the mid-to-upper 90's this week. But daily showers knock the temperature down temporarily. They also cool off the roof. The downside is that the mosquitoes are ferocious.

I'm in Reno, NV and we are having flooding due to heavy rains. Thunderstorms also. Today is forecast to be only 81F, with humidity at 100%. I was soaked yesterday afternoon as I walked home from the library (30 minutes). Lots of washouts from any yards without lawns. On my way home, I pass a park which is now a lakefront property where the parking lot used to be. People will be wading to get to their cars. More rain due over the next 2-4 days... Welcome to high desert Nevada... Plus, the local Atlantis Casino parking lot is having a convertible car show... Lots of very wet interiors now...

The heat...the unrelenting heat...it got to 75 today! But then a cold front came through and it has dropped back down. Yay. There was a little bit of rain about but not where I was. The sun is visibly higher in the sky these days. As a rough guess it was up about 45 degrees at noon. For the first time since May or so it had a bite to it, it felt hot when the sunlight was on you. A sign of things to come as it climbs back to nearly straight up above in the middle of summer.

Well, after a very mild start to the summer, maybe one 100F day back in November, it has heated up. The last two days have been over 40C (105F). Dropping back down again in a day or two fortunately but the lack of heat has slowed the grain harvest. Harvest can finish before Christmas some years. This year it is only just starting! It did rain a fair bit over southern Aus in the last two months. This didn't augur well for the harvest as rain on ripe grain will make it sprout in the head and make it worthless. But fortunately it stopped raining about 2 weeks ago. This is good but the lack of heat meant the grain has taken a long time to dry so it can be harvested. The headers (combine harvesters) should be running flat out from now.

I was at the BOL before and after Christmas. Friday morning was 8°F (-13°C) which is the first time I've been out deer hunting in single digit weather since the 1970s. Propane heater in the deer stand could not keep up with the cold, but made it tolerable. I was walking stiff legged until I thawed out in front of the fire back at camp.

And the mild summer continues. There has only been one day at 100F since my last post at the end of Dec. A couple of days got into the high 90s where a 'normal' summer would have had at least a dozen days over 100 by now. Not only has it not been hot, it has been really cold (for here, anyway). 10C/50F this morning and a 48F morning last week. Also one lot of dew so heavy that water was dripping off of everything. And I had to wear a sweater for two days in a row! Too much more 'global warming' and I'll catch a cold!

A sweltering 74F today. It is supposed to be winter and it has been fairly cold and cloudy recently. But today the wind has dropped and the clouds have disappeared so I'm walking around in bright sunlight without a shirt on! No frosts yet and it has been cloudy at night which keeps the night time temps up. Only a couple of nights in the 30s so far, mostly around 50. Mmmm, campfire weather. Yippee.

We've had a wet spring with frequent showers and minor flooding (this is "high desert" Nevada, USA, sagebrush country). Temps are in the 70-80F range daytime and upper 40's at night. As kelabar says: campfire weather.

Do you think it's time to retire the 2021 Weather thread yet?

Summer has finally finished. Had a day in the high 80s a few weeks ago but now the sun is low in the sky and not nearly as hot. I parked in the sun the other day and the interior wasn't like an oven when I got back in...nice! No rain for months though. I saw one of my old campfires the other day, from last November. The ash is still sitting there loose and dry!
