Tennessee with the highest infection rate in the country and empty toilet paper shelves as well so you are in good company in being surrounded with panic buying and people breaking the rules or simply assuming that the rules never apply to them. I find it alarming that on some forums many of the members I consider both respectable, reliable , level headed and rational have actually turned out to be 100% tin foil hat wearing loons with the most hysterical and irrational beliefs about Covid. So its not just crazys in the mainstream community we have more than our fair share in the prepping community. Took you this long to realise? ? LOL - but you are 100% correct!

Beautiful sunny Sunday morning and the Christmas snow is melting fast. As soon as it melts we are going to plant our living Christmas tree that is in a pot in the soil outside before it breaks dormancy. This years tree was a blue cypress. It was beautiful decorated and will hopefully flourish in our landscaping for many years to come. My Christmas cactus houseplants continue to bloom.
Covid numbers continue to climb in the immediate area and I guess our hospital is near to bursting from what I hear on the local radio.
Due to the Nashville explosion many AT&T customers are still without service. My landline is from the small local phone company therefore my service is fine. They continue to try to figure out who is responsible and right now they are saying a suicide bomber is the likely suspect. Hard to imagine someone giving his life to blow up the phone company of all things. Sounds to me maybe the guys tin foil hat may have been a little too tight. JMHO
Went back to the surgeon and have 6 more weeks in my walking boot. Temperatures have been brutally cold but seem to be warming up a bit. We continue to self isolate by our own choice. We will make a curbside supply run after the first of the year for fresh produce and to top up the animal feed. Lots of projects keeping us both busy and occupied. I continue to moon over all the seed catalogs as usual. Good news is the prepping stores are holding up great and we are warm, healthy and together.
Hope everyone has a safe New Years.
Stay safe and remember to stay clear of the Kool aid. DD

Well Christmas and New Years 2020 are over and back to business Mr. DD went to Lowes Saturday ( think big box building supplies) for those in Australia. He needed to pick up some building supplies and hardware for ongoing household projects. He aid he was amazed at the people who were ignoring the social distancing guidelines in line and such and the number of people with no masks was amazing. Yet in the last 24 hours so enough said. Mr. DD has an appointment at the eye doctor this morning so that is another exposure. We worry every time we go out at the exposure but know we an only do what we can. The good news is most of my kids and family are over their Covid infections and well on the way to recovery although they are still watching the grandchildren closely. Not much gardening going on with several small snow events over the Holidays. All eyes are watching the political situation and aftermath. Stay safe DD

Scotland going BACK into total Lockdown at Midnight with just about everything shut down. Chances are England and wales will follow suit. Geez! Happy New Year Right. Bill I read an article locally that a Health Dept had been caught sending home all the old people that came for vaccines and stood in line for hours. Then after everyone had cleared out called all their friends and relatives to come get shots. Talk about piece of crap medical personnel. Hope they all get fired never to work in the industry again. I guess it is now each man for himself. Even if we wanted to get the shot the cutoff right now is 75 we are just not old enough or sick enough Lol. Saying it will probably be April at the soonest before it hits the masses here in our state. There just seems to be no end in sight. If my husband or I got sick right now there is no hospital beds available. We would have to go to the big city with no guarantees.

They put her in the hospital for several days then sent her home. They needed the bed. She was home for 48 hours and had to be rushed back to the the hospital with Covid pneumonia. Such a mess. We go to doctors appointments only when we have to and curbside grocery pick up. That is the extent of our exposure right now. Fingers crossed the isolation is enough. My husband needs cataract surgery and we can't keep putting it off so we re hoping we do not get exposed then.

Along those lines Nashville news headlines today. - Maury county is already out of Covid vaccines.
- Assisted Living residents have been forgotten and still waiting on vaccine
- Officials are suggesting recommending half dose of vaccine.
This whole vaccine thing that everyone thinks is going to be the solution is turning into a 3 ring circus.

It's a cold snowy day on top of the plateau with snow flurries in the forecast for the next 2 days. Our communications still suffer from the aftermath of the Nashville bombing. Taking out a major part of the infrastructure in an area where towers and such are shared has affected us all.
Nashville mayor's wife has covid so both the mayor and wife are in quarantine. ICU beds are down to 4% in the city. According to the health dept website 7500 new cases overnight and 114 deaths. According to the health dept again the majority of counties unless it is a big city there is no vaccine available at this time.
Made a curbside grocery run this morning had to wait 3 days for a pick up slot and half the items were unavailable. Looks like the panic buying has begun again in earnest.
So I have put away what groceries I could get, mostly fresh fruit and dairy and have returned to my quilt frame to watch the birds out the front window bird feeder and watch it snow.
Stay safe DD

My community is pretty quiet. The Tennessee Department of Health reported 5,844 additional COVID-19 cases and 86 new deaths Saturday. This brings the state's total case count to 646,450. So far 7,704 Tennesseans have died from the virus.
Mr. DD and I took a ride around the area today just to get out of the house. Most restaurants are closed in the area and grocery store parking lots were packed. Snow on the ground still and more forecasted for Monday with drastically cold temps.
I planted my onion seeds for spring transplants this week.
Stay safe DD

5018 cases, 54 deaths in my state since the pandemic started. 3 new cases yesterday in the whole state. I'm in a hot zone, requiring masks to be worn in some businesses and on public transport. I wear a mask for about 2 minutes a day, all that is legally required.
Heading to the primary retreat this weekend to deliver a few preps, do some maintenance and some painting. Covid is pretty well under control here, but if that changes I want to make sure the retreat will provide a safe haven for my family group for at least a year.

Cold Sunday morning here with snow on the ground. 4808 new Covid cases overnight with 44 deaths in Tennessee. The authorities are warning people of phone scammers using the virus tests and vaccines to extort money from the elderly. They have arrested several in the Memphis and Nashville area for their participation in the Capitol demonstrations. They are also reporting that the virus vaccine stockpile is gone. Most counties in my state other than the very large cities have seen very little vaccine. The little vaccine we got will not help the situation at all. So much for that endeavor.
We continue to isolate. Our food preps are holding out very well but the curbside pickups seem to be getting smaller as more and more things are out of stock. Looks like many people used those Covid stimulus checks to purchase food.
My husband goes to have his first cataract surgery on Wednesday morning. I have to wait outside in the vehicle while they do the surgery and will not be allowed in the building. With temps in the 30's and 40's that will not be pleasant. I'll just have to bundle up.
Everyone stay safe. DD

The temps have been cold but not so much rain this week. My husband is healing well from his cataract surgery on the first eye and all is well. I am also healing nicely and should be out of my walking boot by the end of the month and can start physical therapy.
Mr. DD had a doctors appointment last week so I went on Walmart site to place an order for curbside pickup while we were in town. Mistake!! Jeez not sure why but seemed like everything was out of stock. Most of what was unavailable was prepper type goods or long term foods. Canned soups, canned beans, dry beans, paper towels and toilet paper are back on the short list also. The only thing we can figure is fear over the election violence potential and that is how people spent those stimulus checks.
On the flip side we did find some great deals at a smaller grocery store and added pork butt for .89 cents a pound to the freezer and 20 pounds of chicken pieces for .59 cents a pound. Also bought a couple baking hens for .99 cents a pound. We also found some bargains at Kroger on macaroni for .49 cents a pound and coffee sale also. So all in all a good trip just had to shop around a little and get away from the big stores like Walmart. Good thing about it is most stores have online ordering and curbside pickup right now, even the farmers coop brings our feed order to the loading dock. Very minimum contact.
Since my system is when you empty one replace it my preps and pantry are pretty well kept full. One out and one in. Guess we will give it a couple weeks and try again.
We continue to distance ourselves and rarely venture into the public with curbside pick ups, medical appointments and feed runs for the livestock our main trips off the property.
Very little vaccine activity in our small rural county. According to the health dept website none available. I see they are giving shots in Nashville. Guess us country folk don't get sick.
Everyone stay safe
DD
