All is quiet on the home front here. The birdfeeders are busy these days and I woke up to several redbirds (cardinals) feeding this morning. They were my mother's favorite birds. We continue to limit our forays out into the land of the infected. Instead we have lots of little projects going. My husband is adding some much needed shelving to my food storage areas and we hope to repack some of the stores in buckets and relabel them. Just reorganizing and taking stock since we are eating out of them these days more than usual. I continue to work on knitting and quilting projects.
My family thus far all seem to be recovered from the virus reasonably well. Especially the grandbabies seemed to have the least amount of trouble. Although my oldest daughter does complain of extreme fatigue now. However working full time and raising 4 kids tends to do that anyway. We talk regularly and enjoy their phone and online visits.
I got an unsettling message last night from one of my really good friends who was diagnosed with Covid last week. She works in the health care industry. She said :
So we continue in our plans to isolate/quarantine for as long as possible and continue to pray for those who cannot/will not for whatever reasons. So far so good. Life is no longer about elections, rights or political issues or parties but about survival. We are hoping vaccines bring down infections in the area but they are talking the spring or early summer before they make it to all the population. I am sure small backwater communities like ours will be on the bottom of the list. We have no intention on turning our backs on this sickness, letting our guard down or underestimating it. We are dug in and it's going to be a long winter.
Stay safe DD

Here in Australia we are pretty much covid free, apart from a few cases we are importing from overseas. Clubs reopening, sporting events back on. My life is completely unchanged from pre covid days apart from signing in to restuarants or clubs or some shops. Almost nobody wearing masks.

Brutally cold day today with sleet falling... OK. What is sleet? No one seems to like it. Is it like jagged hailstones or something? (It got down to 55F here last night. Chilly!)
its semi frozen rain, do you have Slush puppies or Slushies drinks in your Cinemas made from crushed almost liquid ice, well thats what sleet is like, its very common here in northern England, It lays like snow when it falls and can at time freeze solid. Its rain on the verge of turning to ice.

My life is completely unchanged from pre covid days apart from signing in to restuarants or clubs or some shops. Almost nobody wearing masks. You are very fortunate. it would be nice for the US to get back to that point. For some reason there seems to be a pocket of the disease in this little area. The area has a large population of elderly retirees that probably does not help as they are a very vulnerable part of the population. Not to mention it seemed that a great many people blew it off. Not social distancing and not wearing masks. The locals seem to have a "no one is going to tell me what I can't do" outlook. I think it is maybe a day of reckoning. We do not want to get sick. My husband and I are in a very vulnerable position with age and medical history and we know that. An ounce of prevention approach is maybe prudent for awhile. We have plenty of supplies and we hope to have many holidays in our future together. We can survive together without any visitors for awhile. We have entertained one another for many decades and can mange to not kill one another for a while more.

Another Sunday here. We read and hear that Tennessee continues to have high Covid numbers according to the media. There is still no state wide mask mandate which makes many unhappy but rather our governor has left it up to the individual counties and cities to impose and enforce their own. We wear masks any time we leave the property.
We got snow last week and awoke to rain this morning. Temperatures continue to remain low and old man winter has definitely settled in.
As for Mr DD and myself we will venture out into the land of the infected tomorrow for a visit to my surgeon for another xray on my foot. While out we have an order placed for curb side pickup at the grocery for fresh fruit and dairy and a few sale items for the pantry. Other than that we continue to isolate through our own choice to try to not only avoid infection but also avoid spreading it.
The Christmas tree is up and the stockings are hung and we have plenty food and lots of Christmas cookies so all is well. We prepare for a Christmas together. It has been a long time since there have been no children or grandchildren around our tree. We are happy that all of our out of state adult children and families are safe and recovering well from the virus. We are fortunate that thus far everyone has had mild cases and recovered quickly. Many are still in quarantine though.
Our tree is beautiful, our house warm, our pantry is full and we are healthy if a bit broken up this year in body anyway.
We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday however you choose to celebrate and whatever your beliefs.
Stay safe DD

My area has now been declared a hot zone, after a small number of cases (less than 100 in an area of perhaps 6 million people). Most state borders are now closed to anyone from this region. It means I will have to drive an extra hour if I want to get to my mountain retreat over Christmas/New Year. Probably just visit the coastal retreat instead.
There's been more panic buying of toilet paper. I'm straight back into 11-12hr (5 days a week) shifts at work after 6 weeks off. Think I need a new doctor.

Is your new batch of cases the ones they are saying is a new more virulent strain? The toilet paper silliness has shown up here again as well. Glad your doctor gave you the ok to go back to work you must be on the mend. My doctor has me in a foot boot for another 6 weeks. Stay safe DD

My doctor looked at my latest ECG and said there was nothing wrong with me, and refused to give me any more time off work. I was hoping for at least 2 more weeks, to help use up some of the 1000 hours of sick leave I have banked.

Here we go again, a nation of panic stricken sheeple www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-55406136Tesco puts buying caps on several products Tesco has introduced purchasing limits on some products including eggs, rice, soap and toilet roll. The move is to make sure everyone has access to the products, it said in an email to customers. Customers are allowed to buy up to three of each item. The move comes as almost 3,000 lorries remain stranded in Kent after restrictions on travel and freight between the UK and France were introduced.

Our thoughts are with you and Sonic also and hoping you are both safe and have all you need to weather this. Stay safe both of you! Oh we WILL survive, dunno about the rest of the country though, so far no lockdown precautions have been sucessful, and people simply are over reacting and / or choosing to ignore the rules, now they are back to panic buying. They are behaving exactly like a herd of panic sheep.

Tennessee with the highest infection rate in the country and empty toilet paper shelves as well so you are in good company in being surrounded with panic buying and people breaking the rules or simply assuming that the rules never apply to them.

I find it alarming that on some forums many of the members I consider both respectable, reliable , level headed and rational have actually turned out to be 100% tin foil hat wearing loons with the most hysterical and irrational beliefs about Covid. So its not just crazys in the mainstream community we have more than our fair share in the prepping community.

100% tin foil hat wearing loons with the most hysterical and irrational beliefs about Covid. So what are their hysterical and irrational beliefs? Microchipping, tagging, sterilising, brain washing, controlling etc, Chinese are going to invade, NWO, Plot to sterilise us with Covid vacine, Bilderberg group taking over , Cunning plot to put everyone out of work type stuff. and of course some still insisting Trump is an agent of Russia etc etc. And the response is always pretty much a variable on the same thing which involves Nuking, Bombing back to stone age, buying more guns, shooting those they disagree with , invading China or Russia or both or whom ever they like to blame .
ALL total BS because we all know its the Inuits and Martians plotting to probe us all to death it was them who set fire to australia

Bugger, the hospital has just said its calling in the community based nurses to help out in the overwhelmed ITU units over christmas, that includes my wife. Absolute bugger. My prayers are with your wife Bill and it sucks that she will have to be away from you for the Holidays. I got word yesterday that my best girlfriend has just been put back in the hospital again and back in ICU. She had Covid and was released 48 hors ago because they needed the bed. She has had to go back in now with Covid Pneumonia. She is my age and diabetic also so not good.
