Processed foods linked to multiple health risks, new study reveals alarming findingswww.emergencyemail.org/newsemergency/anmviewer.asp?a=35715&z=1You will probably find this notice on other sites. To Be Honest, I don't know how much credibility to give to this report, but it is something which Preppers should be watching. As a general practice, I avoid "processed foods" in my Preps. I'll prefer to stock generic foods or "raw" foods. At The Same Time: I have to include the warning about pesticide content on many (most?) grains and "raw" foods. Do your own due diligence investigation. Look at the reports on Many cereal products, including processed breakfast foods. I'm raising a red flag around this whole topic. Do your research. TWP

You are right to say 'generally avoid highly processed foods' but a better way might be to say 'everything in moderation'.
I had a quick browse of the study and it seems to be 'medical click-bait' so they can get more funding. From the discussion in the study: "...we graded 9% of the pooled analyses as providing convincing evidence..." So about a tenth of the research they looked at showed a risk from eating highly-processed food. The other 9/10ths was "highly suggestive". "weak", "suggestive" or "lacking evidence". Much ado about nothing, methinks.
So technically the conclusion was true: "Greater exposure to ultra-processed food was associated with a higher risk of adverse health outcomes..." but it is a very slim association.
One thing to consider about some of these foods is they are high in calories and have long shelf lives. Very handy from a prepping point of view.
