Good one, @jim. The simplest trap I know uses a half-full bucket of water, a long necked glass bottle and a sock. Put the sock over the big end of the bottle. Leave the neck clear. Rest the bottle on its side on the stove with the neck hanging over the bucket. You can rest it anywhere but you can tie the sock to the stove top easily to secure it. Shove some bait in the mouth of the bottle. Done. The rodents try to climb out to the bait and slip off the smooth glass into the bucket of water and drown. I have used this and it works.
