cen9856 , Welcome to the forum. Thanks for the link to Lifewire.com. It does contain a wealth of (mostly) apps for use on cellphones. My only complaint (a minor niggle) is that there are fewer tools for use on laptop/desktop computers. My worry is that apps which run on the cellphone network are vulnerable to anything which takes down that network. I worry about relying (solely) on cellphones as a primary comm tool in a SHTF situation. Reading the Lifewire website, I DO see some tools which can run on the general Internet and hence might be suitable for installation on laptop/desktop computers. Everyone, scroll their website and consider adding some tools to your digital Prepper toolchest. DO exercise caution and evaluate any such tool in terms of how safe it is. By "safe" I mean does the tool design and its designers, respect your online privacy and digital security. This means that you may need to do some online digging to discover who builds and maintains a given tool. As an example, I would avoid any tool which used ANYTHING linked to Google, because Google does NOT respect your privacy and you may find yourself (your online profile) added to the Google database-in-the-sky. Google is NOT the only entity which fails to honor and respect digital privacy. they are just the biggest dog in the pack at the moment. It's a jungle out there (lions and tigers and bears, Oh My). Yes, welcome, cen9856 . I can't comment on phone or computer tools but here in Aus the gov puts broadcasts on AM radio. Unfortunately they messed it up. Every 20 or 30 minutes everyone within hundreds of miles of any grass fire has to listen to a 5 minute repeat of redundant info. They sound off some sort of warning noise and then say this is a broadcast for fire info. But they waffle on for a couple of minutes saying this. Then they list all the shires in every county that might be affected and this can be dozens of them. Then they say you should do this and that and this and that, again going into redundant detail. All up it is about 5 minutes of droning talk. You lose interest well before they even say anything that might be useful. And then not long after they repeat it all again. I'm sure it sounded like a great idea in the office where they made it all up but it is so repetitive and irrelevant that it just becomes background noise. The only reason you pay any attention is to curse because you are missing the cricket broadcast!

Thank you for the welcomes. The internet has made it much better to figure out what is going on when it comes to natural disasters. I don't miss the days of waiting to see what the TV said to know what's going on.
