I hope all of you are aware that Canada has implemented a "tax" on URL Links ( Link Tax ) to news reports... I'm sorry about the source of this link, but you can find other reports online. www.nytimes.com/2023/08/05/world/canada/canada-digital-services-act-tax.htmlThis has already impacted at least one Canadian blog site which I have been reading for a couple of years. The site owners have stopped posting until at least September. No, I'm not going to post a link to their blog because I don't want to draw the wrong kind of attention to that site. How does this effect us? Here in the US, I'm watching for this kind of tax (revenue source) to be proposed by the US gubermint... Do any of you see this coming in your country? This is NOT " how to win friends and influence people" - wait... Yes it is an attempt to influence people, just not going to make any friends among Canadians... Watching TWP

I read that this is the last gasp of a dying dinosaur. Mainstream media cannot connect with young people. Newspapers, TV, cinema, etc are all declining. So the MSM bribed the gov to introduce this so they can get at least some sort of revenue. Of course they could offer something attractive to young people so they wanted to look at the MSM. Apparently a continuous stream of condescending propaganda doesn't interest millennials.

More about the link tax on Canadians (really a tax on all of us). Consequence of Ottawa’s ‘Link Tax’ Dampens News on Canadian Wildfiresfossforce.com/2023/08/consequence-of-ottawas-link-tax-dampens-news-on-canadian-wildfires/While I feel no pain for Google when it gets bitten by this, it still represents an infringement on the FREE exchange of information. Google (just the biggest dog in the wolf pack) is NOT the only online news source which is being restricted by this "tax"... Also: Follow the money. It's not only about government control. How long before this spreads to other countries? Coming to a country near you soon... I still advocate (STRONGLY ) against ANY use of Google, including their programming and web design tools. Just say NO. Use another tool or build your own tool. Use another search engine that does not track you. Look at Startpage.com, for instance. We are Preppers... Think OPSEC (Operations Security) and PERSEC (Personal Security). TWP
