I and a friend took an overnight trip to a city about 180 miles away. We had a reservation for a hotel room...
Once we arrived at the check-in desk, we were told that they would NOT accept cash (US Fiat Bills) in payment, we had to use a credit/debit card. Neither of us were pleased with this because our credit/debit cards did not have a high enough balance to make the room payment plus a deposit.
OK, this was resolved by leaving the hotel, driving to a local branch of the bank and making a cash deposit to the credit/debit card... We then returned to the hotel and were "allowed" to register into the room...
We DID express our displeasure with the hotel cash-only policy and that we felt it to be bad business policy. The clerk was very polite and offered the "excuse" that: 1) the hotel did not want to have cash registers holding bare cash bills/change due to the risk of armed robbery and 2) that the owner of the hotel had made the policy/mandate... There were NO visible security guards, although I'm sure they were present.
All of the above aside, my "Prepper Senses" were sending up red flag warnings. I have been aware of the movement/trend/mandate toward a completely cashless economy, for some time now. Well, it is here, now...
Also aside, when we went to one of hotel restaurants, we paid with a credit/debit card BUT the waitress was more than happy to accept a tip paid in fiat cash... Curious, no? We were careful to NOT write a tip amount onto the bill for the meal.
My point is to give a warning to be aware of this trend/mandate: cashless economy IS being pushed down our throats. I don't like the implications of this and I will be "voting with my feet" and not giving my money to businesses which follow this mandate.
Take warning, all.
