That high pitched noise you can hear is me being dragged kicking and screaming into the 20th century.
I am thinking of getting a laptop!
Portability is the main reason.
Currently using a 8GB memory i5 Lenovo PC with 128GB storage. It works fine but I have been running out of memory while ripping and editing video.
Not sure what to look for. It would be used primarily for web browsing via USB dongle wireless broadband and watching videos/playing music. Some programming and game playing but nothing that uses lots of video or processing power. The video editing will be placing the highest demand on the machine. I also use an external USB DVD player.
Ideally it wouldn't have WiFi or Bluetooth capability. And a high number of USB ports would be good so I could use a standard wired keyboard and mouse with it, some only have 1(?) but most seem to have three. And can they all use a monitor for when I want a larger screen?
Some random questions.
SSD vs eMMC?
Any brands better than the others?
128GB should do but can the memory be expanded temporarily using a USB storage device of some sort while manipulating videos?
Chromebooks are cheap but can I use Linux on them? Not interested in keeping the Windows OS or using Macs.
What about reliability and ruggedness? One of my concerns is they are thin, flexible and folding making them seem very vulnerable to damage. I like strong, durable equipment.
And what about battery life, both in runtime and long life before replacement is needed? Also can they run without a battery if it fails or are the batteries all fixed these days? Any fire risk from the lithium batteries I assume they use?
All input appreciated. TIA.
