Gotta laugh at the US turbines built without heating circuits or deicer systems like those built in further northern climates, But the point about not relying on ANYTHING for 25% of your power is wise. I've read this morning of lots of freight trains carrying coal and oil to other power stations are stuck or broken down, and for some reason some gas pipelines are frozen (dunno how or why). Even solar farms are struggling to keep thousands of panels clear of snow .
So if this turns out to be a one off event GOOD, people will not make similar mistakes again (he says more in hope than expectation) BUT if these once in a lifetime events do become more frequent the Southern US is going to have to winterise its utilities and homes, and the north is going to have to adapt to heatwaves, warped railroad tracks, melting roads, and droughts.
We are in for interesting times.
