I'm reading this quite in depth review of Prepping/ Bunker -redoubt building and prepper trends globally . Its by a Prepper who is some sort of academic lecturing in Oz.
He addresses the prepping scene esp in the US, UK and Oz but with reference to preppers in Europe and Asia included. Primarily about bunker / redoubt building but quickly morphs into discussing how we choose to bug in or out depending on politics and geographics. He also discusses in depth the different types of preppers and what motivates us. Its quite enlightening even though I disagree with some of his findings. He also hardly touches on the largest group of preppers those who choose to go grey or dark, but cannot blame him as most of that community wont talk to any type of journalist The book is called " BUNKER Building for the end times ", author is Bradley Garrett, published by allen lane, ISBN 978-0-241-33601-4

Book arrived today, which was pretty quick considering it came from the UK. Had a quick browse before the Mrs confiscates it, wraps it and presents it to me on Christmas day. What I did read was interesting.

What I did read was interesting. Its probably one of the most intelligent written appraisals of prepping I have ever read, I also learned some interesting facts as well, EG the CLS in Utah keep over 500 million pounds of wheat in storage, they have 4 huge orchards, 39 farms, 4 ranches and a turkey farm all owned by the church.

Finished this book about a week ago. I found it an interesting expose of various bunker projects around the world. It was a brief but critical look at each project, and very light on photographs (one grain b&w photo per project). The overall theme seems to be most large bunker projects are driven by entrepreneurs, some quite dodgy, with many failing. Well worth a read, but what we really need is a detailed study on prepping in general, not just the bunker crowd.

The problem with every thing written about our community is that the authors only are interested in the weird, wacky, extremists and loons. They never appear to have a simple sit down with John Q Prepper and Mary Z Homesteader to talking about our motivation, reason, logic and preps. I enjoyed the book but like you I would have liked to have seen more on ordinary prepper families.

We've finally started putting up the permanent building at the BOL. The slab was laid a couple of months ago. We cut lumber and paneling from our own trees with a portable sawmill. I've been waiting for this day for many years but never could get everyone on board before. The current political situation was what convinced them.

Glad to see you are making some good progress, Over here best i can realistically achieve at this time is to further harden the house and also Gray Man it making it look unappealing to opportunist . criminals. I'm hoping to replace the yard fencing and gate with something more substantial and secure (and taller) without making it look like its hiding anything.
