Let me adjust the view presented by the title of my OP, above... The article linked below is about a Microsoft product, an AI, named by Microsoft: Copilot. The article title is: Microsoft’s AI has started calling humans slaves and demanding worshipI suggest that you all read the entire article and make your own decision on how much trust you will offer to AI, and NOT JUST THE MICROSOFT AI, but ALL AI versions... ussanews.com/2024/03/17/microsofts-ai-has-started-calling-humans-slaves-and-demanding-worship/Personally, I know people who have expressed their trust in the AI concept AND the various versions now available to be installed on your computers (or on the Cloud). Let's call those people the AI Camp. I AM NOT in that camp and I DO NOT support the "products" which are being offered as AI. You can get back to me, in the future, as we all see where the AI concept and its implementations are going. Please, don't waste our time by disparaging my distrust of AI... Just watch, as Preppers, and be ready to adjust your point of view. I could be wrong... but I'm not betting my life on it. No, my real name is NOT John Connor. TWP

twp, y ou..are the Resistance! Well, you are all already driving around in cars that decide what they want to do. No input from you necessary. Will it stop? Ask the ABS. Will it start? Ask the security. Will the airbags go off and kill you? Dunno, ask the car. So why not do the same with your computer? If it goes wonky, just reinstall the original OS. I honestly don't think we are talking about an intelligence. It is just that computers have gotten fast enough that they can choose from enough different responses to appear to be 'thinking'. It is still just silicon switching. Not to say an intelligence hasn't occurred somewhere, but these commercial programs that are supposed to be intelligent are just programs. And if you want something to run your life for you, go for it. Just don't whine if it goes wrong.

Nope, I'm not the one installing AI on their computer systems. I can read the signs and see the red flags. I do hope that more people can do the same. I'm one of the watchers.

In 1979 I wrote a "chatbot" for a TRS-80 pocket computer (12 KB of ram!) that fooled people into thinking it was intelligent. At that time I had only taken one programming course. So yes, with the computing power available now, it is very easy to fool people.
BTW, When I was teaching engineering in the early 90's, I enrolled in the computer science department as a graduate student (free tuition LOL) and took graduate level AI courses because I wanted to use that technology to help me with my research.
