Is it simply the weather that has caused this panic? I only ask because things are perfectly normal here. I think that there is always a rush for milk and bread and such before a storm in case you can't get out. But with the availability of things going up and down over time in this pandemic it does not take much for people to panic buy a little. IMHO I think people have lost faith that there will be food there next week etc. So this is probably a reflection of people "getting it while they can" outlook. The other issue is that with many roads iced over and closed there have been few trucks getting through to restock.

Gotcha. Thankfully my area missed the worst of the snowstorm we had a couple of weeks ago, I think Bill may have been in the thick of it though as he's on the eastern side of the country. I think you're right about folk having lost confidence in the supply chain and bad weather on top of what the pandemic has done is enough to give even the most hardened denier the heebiejeebies.

Doc we all post our shortages and you always have full shelves. What is the secret Smaller population? I really don't know. The supermarket here rarely ran out of toilet paper and never ran out of milk, eggs, meat, etc. The selection got real slim at times, and they did get down to just a few cartons of eggs on the shelf once. Oh, they did run out of noodles once, LOL. They even had canning lids. The two things that ran out for the longest time were 90% rubbing alcohol and yeast. They finally have yeast but I still haven't seen any 90% rubbing alcohol (they do have 70% though).

Just count your blessings! And 90% alcohol is not available anywhere. Haven't seen it since the start of Covid. I now see 70 also.

My husband made a first of the month trip to the feed store yesterday to restock chicken/duck/dog food. Since he was in town he stopped by the small local grocer on a whim and found ground sirloin 93% lean for 1.99 a pound and pork rib slabs for 1.12 per pound. Bought 20 pound of sirloin and 15 pounds of ribs for the freezer. That should keep us in burgers and bbq ribs on the grill into the summer. That was a nice find. Just a one day manager's special but really pretty quality meat.

Thursday was an errand day for us. Dog to the vet and Mr. DD to the doctor then a trip to the supermarket. Paper aisle fully stocked better than I have seen since the start of the pandemic. Same with the medical supply section first time I have seen 90 percent alcohol (for disinfecting) on the shelf in a year. Hand sanitizer was even reduced price. Again there are disinfection cleaning supplies like liquid Lysol back on the shelf. Canned foods, dried beans, pasta and rice were stocked well again. The produce section was much smaller but what they did have they seemed to have an ample supply of.
What I noticed most was the increase in pricing though. Seems as if everything had increased in price.
Still no canning supplies on the shelf. Yarn was scarce as well as small things like shop vac bags and furnace filters. Seeds were also pretty picked through.
